Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
